According to a former political prisoner, sanctions should be extended to let officials know the West react to their lawlessness.
Dzmitry Uss thinks economic pressure on official Minsk is needed. Lifting sanctions is a deadlock and a way to North Korea.
“Europe feeds police batons by buying our oil products, medicines, paints, chemical fibre and other goods. All currency is spent on maintaining the regime. In this case, the regime will last forever with the economic support from Europe. What is more, our pseudo-politicians want the sanctions against the people responsible for lawlessness in Belarus to be lifted. This will encourage outrage in Belarus,” Uss told Radio Svaboda.
