Speaker of the “council of the republic” Anatol Rubinau was harshly criticized in Russia for an article in “Sovetskaya Belorussia” newspaper.
“Moscow does not believe in tears, as people say. Moscow does not believe in empty promises and assurances, especially if they are made by those who “doesn’t ask any grants and preferences from its ally” but at the same time receives huge benefits due to unprecedentedly low energy prices,” Gazeta.ru quotes Alexander Babakov, a vice speaker of the Russian Duma.
In his opinion, Russia believes in actions. “The main thing is that it believes in friendship and the common future of the Russian and Belarusian peoples, their cooperation and integration. That is the reason why the country supports its neightbour by delivering cheap gas (at $184, the lowest price for the CIS countries), delivering duty-free oil for Belarus’s domestic needs (6.3 million tons),”the vise speaker noted.
“Everyone can see and know what we receive in exchange. Certain things cannot be called other that political manoeuvring,” Babakov estimated the article by the chairman of the Belarusian “council of the republic”.
The vice speaker expressed his critical opinion on Rubinau’s idea, who said Alyaksandr Lukashenka had become the head of state as a result of a competitive struggle, having gained support of the people of Belarus, while Russian presidents (including Vladimir Putin) had been given power. In his view, “those who write articles on this theme should respect the choice of our people”.
We remind that Anatol Rubinau, the former deputy head of Lukashenka’s Adminsitration and speaker of the “council of the republic”, published an article in “Sovetsakaya Belorussia” newspaper in fact accusing Russian top officials of an intention to remove Lukashenka from his post.
