Is Lukashenka against dictatorial privatisation?

Speaking at the session on corruption control, Alyaksandr Lukashenka showed nervous reaction to statement of opposition leaders about the current “privatisation”. “In this difficult period, some park-bench opposition politicians said about the coming stock privatisation and property redistribution,” he said.

“Calm down, please, there won’t be any stock privatisation,” the Belarusian ruler said.

As it is known, leader of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Andrei Sannikov suggested a slogan “No to dictatorial privatisation!” The opposition politician has repeatedly said, fair and transparent privatisation is impossible under conditions of dictatorship, absence of independent court, real parliament and freedom of speech in Belarus. In these conditions, state-own enterprises may go to appointed by the dictator people. That is why a new democratic government won’t recognise the results of the dictatorial privatisation.

”Corruption will draw Belarus into political and economic turmoil”

Lukashenka admitted during the today’s session that a level of corruption in the country is extremely high. According to data of international organisations, Lukashenka’s Belarus is a leader among the most corrupted world countries.

“The spreading corruption among those, whose duty is to fight corruption, is disturbing. Representatives of power-wielding bodies designed to prevent and suppress these criminal phenomena turn out to be involved in bribery and other sordid actions,” the Belarusian ruler said.

“Patronage of companies, lobbying of licences, quotas, permits, closure of criminal cases against ‘our businessmen’ and launch of designer cases against their competitors. Don’t you hear what people talk about and what trespasses are unearthed?” Lukashenka said to participants of the session.

According to him, “mass plunder of state property was prevented. We have no oligarchs, made hands of pillage of people’s property.”

Lukashenka emphasised that “there are no reasons to calm down and let the fight against the evil slide”. In particular, he stated that “though the total number of revealed corruption crimes is decreasing, bribery is growing. It is what we wanted to reveal. Material damage of corruption is rising, while compensation is decreasing.”

According to him, “there were 347 cases of corruption crimes in the state management sector for the last 10 months. 104 of them were committed by officers of bodies of internal affaires, state security, financial investigation, ministry of defence, state border and state customs committees”. “It is what has been revealed,” Lukashenka told.

“We can’t give up drastic struggle against corruption, rust, able to draw the country into economic, social and political turmoil,” he said.

Lukashenka is called by Forbs one of the richest people in Eastern Europe.
